In the winter of 2015, Rakeeb (guitars), Trinayan (drums) and Kaushik (vocals) discussed over the possibilities of starting a band. The next couple of weekends were spent in Rakeeb and Trinayan's house, discussing ideas. By the third week, Kaushik's friends - guitarist, Govindan and bassist, Lohith were roped in to complete the lineup.
As a tribute to their idol and one of their primary influences, Lemmy Kilmister, the band decided to call itself Speedtrip. During the initial days, much time was spent on perfecting the sound as well as composing originals.
Speedtrip hit the live scene in February 2016, entertaining metalheads with their dose of unique combination of rarely performed classic metal covers and originals.
After a few live shows, the band decided to take a break from performing, to write new material for their debut album. Once the songwriting was completed, Speedtrip was back on stage. The band's sound, now, moved towards a more sinister spectrum of heavy metal and was very well received by the Speedtrip legionnaires.
In November 2016, Speedtrip parted ways with one of the founding members and drummer, Trinayan. The void was filled in by Sylvester Joseph.
The band hit the studios in April 2017 to record the debut album “Trapped In A Maze”. The album was launched at the Bangalore Open Air 2017 , where Speedtrip opened for Nile (US) and Coroner (Swiss) on July 01, 2017 .
The band is now working on the promo and planning more gigs to promote the album.
Horns up for heavy metal, Speedtrip believes in keeping it loud and nasty!
