Houdini Dax is a three-piece Welsh rock band from Cardiff who performed in India as a part of the NH7 Weekender Music Festival in Bangalore and Kolkata. Houdini Dax is also the first from twelve music artistes from Wales to have been selected for Gorwelion/Horizons. The band recently performed at the legendary BBC Maida Vale Studios in London, where award winning music artistes like The Beatles, Beyoncé, Led Zeppelin and David Bowie have recorded their music.
Horizons/Gorwelion is a scheme delivered by BBC Cymru Wales in partnership with Arts Council Wales to develop new, independent contemporary music in Wales.
The music of Houdini Dax, a band consisting of Jack Butler, David “Dave” Newington and Owen Richards, has “steeped in classic music influences,” says BBC. BBC Radio Wales presenter Adam Walton calls the band “more than a trip down Penny Lane, though. Their songs have dark edges, just enough shadow to ground them in the here and now. The freshness they bring to the music of The Beatles, Turtles, early Pink Floyd and Monkees’ L.Ps is as refreshing as it is exciting."
