Mixtaped Monk is nothing but my attempt to express myself through sounds. This one-man project of mine is also a tribute to a long lost friend who is currently residing in Tibet and helping humanity after denouncing the world and becoming a monk. Now, one might ask why I chose the name “Mixtaped Monk”. Well, that is because I like discovering different kinds of music and being influenced by them to create my own music. So, in a way, the music I make is like a mixtape which might contain music from various genres but conveys a single thought process through its sounds. And since I crave peace more than anything else in this world, the word “monk” describes the reality of what I might myself become one day. So the name “Mixtaped Monk.”
Having been an aimless voice-over artist, a singer, a full-time music journalist, a communications professional and even a business analyst in my life, I realized one thing and that is my thoughts are best expressed through stringing sounds together. And when I successfully do that, I experience a sense of euphoria that is totally unparalleled. The first time I experienced this euphoria, I thought, “Why not release my creation out in the open and let the world listen? Who knows? I might even find some kindred spirits in this lonely and ruthless world.” This was 2013 and that is when the idea of Mixtaped Monk was born. But before releasing my first song, I did go through the usual procrastination mode that every artist goes through. And it was a tough nut to crack. Still, I did crack it and released my first song in 2016. And since then I embarked on a journey of self-discovery that I wish never ends.
